The Noble House of Corison

By Jason Valenzuela

The Corison family has long been a noble family. Traditionally know for ruling their lands with a fair and just hand. They often take time to spend among the peasants and people in their land to better understand how to govern and why the people are unhappy or happy. Another family tradition is that the Corison’s devotedly believe in the good work of the Paladins of Valarian.

In each generation of Corisons at least one son has become a Paladin. More often than not more than one of each generation becomes a Paladin. Never in the history of the Corison family has anyone been forced to become a Paladin, however also in the history of the Corison line no one that has been offered the position has ever declined.

The current Baron Corison is Maxwell Phillip Corison. He inherited the title when his father Edmond Nyles Corison retired to serve the Paladin’s full time as a teacher and crusader. His Grandfather Taellin Maxwell Corison was the Baron before Edmond, and the paternal line of the Corison family is uninterrupted for as far back as any in the family or service to the family can remember.

Rumor has it that the original Corison and founder of the Corison line was originally a half-elf whom fell in love with and married a purely human girl. Through magic or miracle a son was born to the two and although he must have had some touch of elven blood he appeared utterly human. Still either of fear or mere precaution the half-elven father enchanted a ring. Whoever wears the ring is said to become exceptionally virile with whomever they take into their bed. Legend of course says that should a sterile man put on the ring or the wearer of the ring bed a sterile woman the union would still be blessed with child. Another myth surrounding the ring is that whoever wears the ring will spawn only male children. Historically this has proven true, as no male head of the family has ever had anything but sons. Whether the ring actually has the powers the legends say or not is under debate however, as the family will not allow it to be studied by scholars and mages. Baron Maxwell currently wears the ring, which is also the signet ring of the family Corison.

For a testimate to the legends surrounding the ring Baron Maxwell has four healthy sons with his wife Katherine Leigh Bartos, (A minor relation to the Baron Bartos of Waterdown.) The eldest son is Edmond Ryan Corison, next in line is Jullian Finlay Corison, third in line is Taellin Raymond Corison, and the youngest son is Preston Phillip Corison. The Baron himself has only one brother, Phillip Ryan Corison. (Which amongst family brings the joke that his father made more time for battle than bed, as this is a pitifully low number of children for an inheritor of the ring to sire.) Phillip Corison serves with his father amongst the Paladins of Valarian, having waited only long enough to assure his brother had heirs before devoting himself fully to service.

The eldest son Edmond as befitting a first son has stayed at the Barony and learned all that there is to learn from his father. Edmond is known for going down among the people and working along side them. Apparently he feels this is the best way to learn how the Barony goes about its daily life. Like most Corison boys he has shown an aptitude for the physical and martial arts… but has also learned his figures and the activities of the court well. There is no doubt in his Father or Grandfather that he will make an excellent Baron. His wife Richelle LaFontaine, has already born him a son Owen Nyles Corison… prompting the family to joke that he has been snitching his Father’s ring before due time.

The second son Jullian is the odd man in the family. Rumors around the keep where that Jullian was the only daughter ever born to a wearer of the ring… however a string of young maidens left with broken hearts and pilfered wardrobes testified that Jullian’s leanings, if not on the straight and narrow, would still yield fruit if he need become heir. Jullian took more time learning the etiquette and pomp of the court. Indeed he fit very well with the role delegated to him by his father. The look of glee that illuminated his eyes when he was told that he would be sent to the Capital to represent the family was only outshone by the look in his eyes during the first shopping trip he took in the Capital.

Arriving in the Capital Jullian promptly took it by storm. He charmed and styled his way to the top of the fashion scene in E’gath and that is where he sits as a Prince of Fashion and Etiquette. Young Ladies want him to undress them or dress them. Young Lords want to be him, or… well… rumors are rumors. Behind the scenes… known only to a close few and his brothers Jullian is a fighter par excellance. Sword in hand or unarmed Jullian can more than hold his own and with the dash of spell casting that is in Corison blood he is sure to make an impression. Often Jullian competes in the E’gathin Capital gladiatorial games, masked and anonymous of course.

The third son, Taellin is a Paladin of Valarian. He is devoted chaste and pure. His heart and head can do no wrong and he strives to be the ideal of goodness and purity. His only mistakes are attempting to shoulder too much at once and the impossibly high standards that he holds himself to. Even for a Paladin his lofty goals seem unrealistic in the world of Selan today. He dresses entirely in white and sky blue and strikes a shining figure that lets no one mistake him as anything but a Paladin. Currently Taellin is on a self-imposed mission to guard the head of Krosnap and many other dangerous magical treasures from ever being unleashed upon the world. His romantic ideals hold him to his duty as the last line of defense against the evil contained in the room he guards.

The fourth son, Preston is still young and has been sent to Waterdown to study. He has shown no small skill as a scholar and researcher as well as a spell caster. However his teachers have noted with his larger frame and greater physical strength he tends to use force of arms in both play and practice with his fellow classmates. Some of the teachers having known or taught some of the Corison boys are totally unsurprised at this. In there eyes it seems that young Preston has a promising career as a Spellsword ahead of him. His current goals are to enter into the Guild of the Arts Unseen, and the pants of the smith’s daughter.
