Temple of Garnath
Also known as the Tower of Light
Sketch of Temple

The Temple of Garnath is located somewhere in the middle of the Eastern Hemisphere of Selan. Explorers who have been there have no exact location because only magical conveyance has been used to date. The primary method of entry to this ancient temple are magical puzzle boxes scattered throughout the world. These puzzle boxes are normally found in ruins or in the posession of ogres and giants. The only other known method of entry is a magical gateway created by the priests of the One True Light in Nevan. From a specially prepared ritual circle, people can step into a ring of light and be transported across Selan to the temple.

The temple building itself is immense. Originally built by ogres and giants, this temple is a testament to the sheer size and skill of the ancient Garnathian people. Shaped as a gargantuan 250 foot octagonal tower into the sky, it is 120 feet wide at its base. There are a set of double doors set into the tower at each of the four cardinal directions. These doors are fashioned from stone and designed to be opened by ogres and giants. They are exceptionally weighted, so even now the doors open and close with only moderate effort from a human-sized being.

The temple has no internal sources of light: No candlesticks, no torch sconces, no lantern hooks, and no enchanted illumination. The only light comes from the sky and their god Garnath. During the day, sunlight will stream into the temple from above through a prismatic skylight. This skylight appears to be made of crystal or diamond. When light enters the skylight it refracts into the full spectrum of visible light, although a single shaft of white light does continue downwards. The top of the tower is also octagonal and peaked until it reaches the roughly octagonal skylight. On each of the eight corners of the roof lies an immense colored gem or crystal. Each crystal is colored for one of the spectrums of visible light (Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, Violet). When the refracted colored light meets with the additional light from the sides it creates a bright white light near the base of the tower.

Along each of the eight walls of the tower are giant inscriptions. The inscriptions are carved into the stone with each character approximately five feet in height. The same inscription is imprinted on each of the eight walls. Winding upwards through the lettering are giant stairways and landings to ease reading of the text for visitors. A translation of the Garnathian script can be found at the following link.

Prophesy of Garnath

The center of the temple contains a series circles that contains statues of the gods. In the center of the rings is the largest of the statues, a 30 foot tall statue to Garnath. Inset into this statue is a semi-physical shadow version of an enchanted puzzle box. This shadow version of the puzzle box may be touched by anyone who used a puzzle box or other magic to transport themselves to the temple. The shadow box will not disappear after being activated.

The first ring of statues around Garnath represent ten of the elder gods. Each statue stands roughly 20 feet in height. Every statue seems to exude a bit of the madness and chaos that is hinted at in the inscription. Each is a darker and more unbalanced form of the standard persona given by the gods. Scholars are unsure which of the gods are represented in the temple: some feeling that the missing two gods represent the unknown god and Lillith, while others suspect that those missing are Piccor and the unknown god.

The second ring of statues represent the lesser gods, demi-gods, devils, powers, and elementals. They also bear the marked insanity that marks all of the other statues. Each of these statues is a mere ten feet in height.

Everyone not currently out of Garnath's favor will have an overwhelming sense of warmth and tranquility. Cares and concerns are washed away as the individual feels the love of Garnath. Those who are actively working against Garnath's plans and goals will feel a chilling sense of paranoia begin to creep through their mind. Anyone who attempts to inflict violence or harm within this temple must roll 1/4 Willpower to even attempt the action. Those who are successful may attempt their harmful action, but this will inflict an equal amount of pain and injury to the attacker.

Outside the Temple of Garnath lies a seemingly endless desert. This wasteland of dead earth and wind is all that remains of the lush and verdant nation of Garnath. The events that transpired to create this desolate landscape is still unknown, but is hinted upon in the inscriptions lining the inner tower. No living thing has been spotted in the desert by observers standing safely near the temple. No one yet knows how vast this lifeless desert truly is.
