Town of Nevan |
|
The Town of Nevan is located towards the beginning of the Nevan River, very close to the junction of the Dragonspine
Mountains. The town is a large one on the south side of the Nevan River and incorporates part of Haldur's Creek. The
majority of the city is walled, but the portion just north of Haldur's creek is not walled. That side is protected and
guarded by two towers that watch over the Guardian Bridge. The wooden bridge is an elaborate affair with ancient carvings,
some stone supports. A map of the city's street names can be found here.
Nevan is best known as a merchant's hub with the many small mining towns and villages in the area. It has a sizable trade in both raw materials and finished metal goods. Recently more trade has been coming through from the Town of Valley Pass. Most of the metalworking coming from Valley Pass is fashioned from steel, and this has made Nevan even more wealthy a city. Nevan is also known for the whiskey that bears its name: Nevan Gold. This is a very popular drink amongst the rest of the Empire. Nevan's final claim to fame is the original Temple of the One True Light that lies within its walls. In fact, most of the inhabitants of Nevan and the surrounding villages are worshippers of the One True Light. The former priests of the Temple of the Nine have recently left the town.
The current ruler of Nevan is Count James William Nevan III. A wise and compassionate ruler, he has seen the town and his people through very trying times. He is a savvy politician, but prefers to speak the honest truth when he can afford the privilege. Still a young human of only 38, he has many years left of service to his home.
1 - Nevan Keep
Count Nevan has a sizable stone keep placed securely within an inner wall. His family resides within the keep, along with
a small retinue of servants and guards. There is enough room left unused in an emergency that he could house most of the
city's inhabitants. The accomodations would be cramped and uncomfortable, but possible.
Count Nevan's wife is a stocky woman named Theresa. Theresa was born to the gentry, her parents were wealthy merchants who resided in Nevan. Theresa and he have three young children: Gunther (7), Clarice (10), and William (13).
2 - Temple of the One True Light
This is the original temple dedicated to the One True Light. The temple is surrounded by stone walls, and is completely
hewn from granite. The front of the temple has a large prismatic crystal that refracts the light during the day. The
current Highpriest is Winston Roberts, a skilled administrator but low-level priest. Other priests of note who reside here
include: Lambert the Green and William Sanderson.
3 - Manor of Sorin Tallendal
The home and fortified manor house belonging to Sorin Tallendal, hero of Nevan. In his youth, Sorin Tallendal was an
accomplished warrior and swordsman. He saved the city several times in his adventuring days, but now simply wishes to
relax and enjoy his twilight years. Even so, his manor house is designed with security in mind. High stone walls, no
ground level windows, and other defensive measures are built into his home.
4 - Temple of the Nine
Currently abandoned and in serious disrepair. All of the priests that formerly lived there have moved to other towns and
cities in the Empire. Count Nevan has considered selling the property, but has held off in case the Church of the Ten
wishes to re-inhabit the building. The Temple of the Nine was actually a temple that worshipped the ten greater gods of the
common pantheon. When the local priests of Piccor began the Church of the One True Light, they slowly changed the name of
the temple to the Temple of the Nine in an effort to shame them into returning.
26 - Gold Lion Inn
This establishment is a clean and friendly establishment with good food and drink. There are three private rooms available
for renting and a large common room that sleeps ten. The owner is an ex-soldier of the Imperial Army named Nester
Johnson.
38 - Dockside Inn
A dive of an inn that is too dirty to be respectable, and far too close to the keep to be private for the criminal element.
This inn barely survives by renting rooms to the poor and the truly cheap. The food is plain and tasteless but still
fresh and healthy. The owner is a woman that goes by the name of Fionna.
39 - Home of Nicolaus Brun, Merchant of Antiquities
58 - Vacant Building
Previously the home and workshop of Robert Townsend, a skilled Jeweler. It is currently unowned, and Count Nevan has been
unable to rent or sell the property. People have declared the building haunted due to the strange stories and dark magics
that have occurred at the location. Robert Townsend is missing and presumed dead.
76 - Money Changers Guild
84 - Home of Ronald Wilcox
This is the home and private library of some reknown around the county. Ronald Wilcox is a non-magical sage that inherited
a large number of tomes and volumes from his former mentor and teacher. He has recently done research and study for the
Church of the One True Light, including the Speaker Masark. He has also been asked to join the Imperial Ministry of
Archives.
